As you all may have heard, SolidWorks 2018 will no longer be using PDM WorkGroup. Instead SolidWorks is offering 3 version of their new file server – PDM Standard, PDM Professional and EPDM. Solid Design Works, LLC has been working with SolidWorks on the best way to migrate your data from WorkGroup to PDM. There are many ways including data migration tools, simple pack and go’s or drag and drop. SDW has been working with local companies who have been going through the same battles that you will ultimately face when you upgrade to 2018 and find your vault no longer works. SDW would be pleased to come on site and discuss your options for transfer. We teach anything from data migration, vault back-up, data card and workflow processes. This may seem a daunting task but we can help you over the hump.

Workflows in PDM is the driving force behind your file management. This version is much more powerful than its predecessors. It can seem confusing but can provide rev control and user hierarchy. That’s just for PDM Standard. PDM Professional is much more powerful for those groups that have many users and many different projects that need to be maintained separately.
I have provided some helpful links for those who are trying their own migration. Please feel free to contact us using our ‘Contact’ tab if you would like a face to face or just some advice. Good luck to all my fellow SW users!
